telc German B1 - May 2025
Examination structure and evaluation
The telc Deutsch B1 exam has two parts: a written exam and an oral exam. The written exam takes 2.5 hours and includes reading, listening, and writing tasks. The oral exam lasts about 15 minutes, and you’ll have 20 minutes to prepare for it. The oral exam may be held on the same day as the written exam or on a different day.
You pass the exam if you score at least 60% for both the written and oral exams.
The telc German B1 exam is evaluated centrally by telc, and can take 4–6 weeks. We’ll notify you when your results are ready.

Important information regarding the crediting of examination parts that have already been passed
telc examinations must generally be taken in full. It’s possible to retake a failed part of the exam and have the partial result credited if you retake the exam within 12 months.
For the overall assessment, it will always be the last examination result achieved in the respective partial examination that counts.
If you wish to receive credit for a part of the exam that you passed, you must explicitly state this when you register. You will not have the chance to request crediting of partial examination results at a later date. Details can be found in the telc examination regulations, page 15, §7,3.
If you are repeating your exam
You will need to share the result of the exam you’re repeating.
To do so, prepare the digital copy of the front and back pages of your previous telc German exam result.
Kindly ensure that the previous exam was taken within the last 12 months. If it was taken longer than that, you will need to repeat the entire exam.
Prepare digital copies of your identification document
Both IC or passport will be accepted. Upload the page which contains your personal information.
Format and size of digital copies
Digital copies of your telc German result as well as your identification document must be in the jpeg format. Each of them should be no larger than 2MB.
